چکیده

Ensign, Jerald C. (University of Illinois, Urbana), and R. S. Wolfe. Nutritional control of morphogenesis in Arthrobacter crystallopoietes. J. Bacteriol. 87:924-932. 1964.-Arthrobacter crystallopoietes exhibits the cyclic, morphological variation which is a characteristic of this genus. A simple chemically defined medium was developed in which this organism is restricted to growth and division entirely in the coccoid form. Addition singly to this medium of l-arginine, l-phenylalanine, l-asparagine, l-lysine, succinate, malate, fumarate, lactate, or butyrate results in the formation of the rod-shaped stage. A large number of other compounds either increase, have no effect on, or inhibit growth without inducing morphological change in the organisms.

Regulation of cyclic AMP levels in Arthrobacter crystallopoietes and a morphogenetic mutant.

The extracellular levels of cyclic AMP (cAMP), cAMP phosphodiesterase activity, and adenylate cyclase activity were measured at various intervals during growth and morphogenesis of Arthrobacter crystallopoietes. There was a significant rise in the extracellular cAMP level at the onset of stationary phase, and this rise coincided with a decrease in intracellular cAMP. The phosphodiesterase activ...

A Chick Embryo in-Vitro Model of Knee Morphogenesis

Background: In this feasibility study, a mechanically loaded in-vitro tissue culture model of joint morphogenesis using the isolated lower extremity of the 8 day old chick embryo was developed to assess the effects of mechanical loading on joint morphogenesis. Methods: The developed in-vitro system allows controlled flexion and extension of the chick embryonic knee with a range of motion of ...

A trehalose biosynthetic enzyme doubles as an osmotic stress sensor to regulate bacterial morphogenesis

The dissacharide trehalose is an important intracellular osmoprotectant and the OtsA/B pathway is the principal pathway for trehalose biosynthesis in a wide range of bacterial species. Scaffolding proteins and other cytoskeletal elements play an essential role in morphogenetic processes in bacteria. Here we describe how OtsA, in addition to its role in trehalose biosynthesis, functions as an os...

Immunohistochemical study of type III collagen expression during pre and post-natal rat skin morphogenesis

Objective(s):Skin extracellular matrix, which contains type I and type III collagens, is involved in skin development. The aim of this study was to investigate type III collagen distribution pattern as well as its changes during pre and post-natal skin morphogenesis in rats. Materials and Methods: Ventral skins of Wistar rat embryos at different stages from 10 to 20 gestational day (E10-E20) a...
